Abstract

1. 1. Data are presented which demonstrate the stimulatory effect of certain fatty acids on the formic hydrogenlyase, formic dehydrogenase, and hydrogenase enzyme systems in resting cell suspensions and vacuumdried preparations of Aerobacter aerogenes. 2. 2. A substance(s) present in extracts of yeast and liver is required in addition to the fatty acid for the formic hydrogenlyase system. Some of the properties of this factor(s) are given. 3. 3. Under certain conditions of measurement the formic dehydrogenase system is stimulated by acid-hydrolyzed yeast extract.
