Abstract

In this study, we propose and validate a new phase change source term based on the Gong and Cheng's lattice Boltzmann (LB) model (Gong and Cheng, 2012) [1]. A modified phase transition LB model, combined with a multicomponent LB method, was applied to simulate co-existing boiling and condensation phenomena interesting a multicomponent fluid (i.e., water and non-condensable gas (NCG)) in a confined space. Additionally, we investigated and discussed numerically the effects of the NCG concentration on the heat and mass transfer performances during the phase change of multiphase and multicomponent fluids in a confined space. In particular, these effects were studied considering variable solid wettability and confined scale conditions.
