Abstract

The coexistence of noise-like pulses (NLPs) and multiple pulses in an ultrafast erbium-doped fiber laser on the nonlinear amplifier loop mirror (NALM) configuration is reported. The results show that the pulse number of single bunches in the NLPs regime increases almost linearly with the increase of pump power. By virtue of the dispersive Fourier transformation (DFT) technique, real-time vector dynamics evolution of multiple pulses in the NLPs regime is demonstrated. The study indicates that each one of multiple pulses in NLPs states are actually composed of chaotic noise waves with stochastic pulse intensities. These findings help deepen the understanding of the physical mechanisms of vector pulses.
