Abstract

Tests with (E,E) -S, 10-dodecadien-1-ol, a synthetic sex attractant, of Laspeyresia pomonella (L.), were conducted in large field cages at Brownsville, TX, and in an apple orchard at Yakima, WA. Rubber bands and 2 types of rubber tubing were satisfactory dispensers (wicks) of the attractant per rubber dispenser (1 dispenser/trap) was 0.1 or 1.0 mg, depending on the type of trap and the duration of the test; traps baited with either of these amounts were still catching moths after 145 days in the field, but the traps baited with 0.1 mg caught fewer moths. Traps baited with 0.01 mg attractant caught comparatively few moths after 3 weeks of aging in the field.
