Office staff can receive continuing education unit (CEU) credit as well. Visit http://www.pedialink.org.This brief brochure explains what the resource-based relative value scale (RBRVS) is and how it affects pediatrics. It is updated annually. It includes the 2002 relative values for more than 50 codes commonly used in pediatrics, as well as the geographic practice cost indices for each state. An electronic copy of the brochure is available at http://www.aap.org/visit/rbrvsvisit.pdf.The chapter coding trainers can provide coding education to members at local and state levels. They participate in an electronic mailing list and receive updates from the Committee on Coding and Nomenclature and the Division of Health Care Finance and Practice. Most sections have identified relative value unit (RVU) chairs. Among their responsibilities are to identify gaps in CPT codes and to help the American Academy of Pediatrics put forth recommendations for new codes. For members with concerns related to specific codes, RVU chairs may be able to help. For more information on coding and nomenclature issues, contact Linda Walsh or Teri Salus in the Division of Health Care Finance and Practice at 800/433-9016, ext 7931.
