Abstract
In this paper different solutions for digital TV broadcasting on cable systems by quadrature amplitude modulation (QAM) are investigated and compared to the standard proposed by the European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI). Residual error probabilities are derived for 64 and 16 QAM with and without differential encoding of the quadrant information and for Reed-Solomon (RS) and Bose-Chauduri-Hocquenghem (BCH) forward error correction.
