Abstract

This paper collaboratively designs radar waveform and communication transceiver beamformers to enhance the co-existence performance of multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) radar and multi-user MIMO communication systems. To improve radar detection performance, an information theory-based metric is optimized, while constraints are enforced to guarantee the quality of downlink communication. The resulted non-convex and NP-hard problem is tackled through sequential optimization procedure, lowerbound maximization and alternating direction method of multipliers algorithm. Numerical simulations are conducted, showing the monotonicity and convergence of the proposed algorithm, and comprehensively evaluating the performance of radar and communication systems.
