Abstract

With the proliferation of the various distributed power plants including fuel cell for mobility and stationary applications, there is a need to address the issues of codes and standards by all the players. At the moment, various states in the U.S. and the Federal Government agencies are expanding their infrastructural networks to accommodate the vast growing demand for alternative energy and soon, various nations will expand their fuel cell installations too. Knowledge of the fuel cell installation's codes and standards will reduce incidents and accidents and makeovers and streamline the quality of installation. The relevance of codes and standards is that the infrastructure will satisfy the applicable regional or national codes. The second part of this report addresses the applicable test protocol for testing single proton exchange membrane- PEM fuel cell as developed by the U.S. Fuel Cell Council (USFCC). This enables test results from various laboratories and institutions to be compared on the same basis. This work addresses mechanical and electrical installation codes requirements and low temperature PEM operating below 80 oC.
