Abstract

Continuous Phase Modulation (CPM) scheme is one of the constant-envelope digital modulation schemes, the constant-envelope nature of CPM signals makes them robust for the nonlinear and fading channels which typically stand for the satellite and the mobile radio channels. CPM can be decomposed into a Continuous Phase Encoder (CPE) followed by a Memoryless Modulator (MM). Various forms of the encoder enable many new modulation schemes by the combination of the novel encoder and MM. This paper first proposes a new extended CPM (ECPM) scheme which uses the Extended Channel Encoder (ECE) of good property. Then a comparison of the Bit-Error-Rate (BER) of CPM and ECPM is performed through simulation. Experimental results show that ECE is a good choice for improving the performance of CPM scheme.
