Abstract

Key themes in the woman’s film endure in Hollywood representations of femininity to the present day. Neil Jordan’s film The Brave One (2007) gives us an illuminating opportunity to consider the influence of the woman’s film on the later genre of the rape-revenge film, an important subgenre of modern horror. The Brave One leads us to a renewed consideration of the theme of transformation in the woman’s film, arguably the central theme not only in this genre but in modern horror as well.KeywordsFemale CrimeAfrican American TeenagerViolent PredatorPlaza HotelMoral IntelligenceThese keywords were added by machine and not by the authors.
