Abstract

In the present study, waste water from sugar industry was treated in perspex glass reactor of 1.5 dm3 capacity using electrocoagulation (EC) process. The experiments were conducted by varying pH, current density (CD) and electrode gap (EG). Copper electrode was used in the experiments. COD was reduced from 1,880 mg/dm3 to 606 mg/dm3 and colour reduction of 95.67% was achieved by this process. The optimum condition was found at pH 6.5, current density 133.9 A/m2 and EG of 1.5 cm. In this work energy consumption and kinetic study were also conducted and reported.
