Abstract

The Consortium for Continental Reflection Profiling (COCORP) met Septmber 22–23, 1987, at Cornell University (Ithaca, N.Y.) to examine recent progress in deep reflection profiling and to review and develop plans for the future. The tone of the meeting reflected the atmosphere of excitement and discovery that currently pervades this field of study worldwide. A highlight was a review of the recent explosive growth of deep reflection profiling abroad. Such growth clearly shows that deep reflection profiling is recognized worldwide as the preeminent tool for examining the deep structure of the continental lithosphere. Major themes underpinning the committees' deliberations included the nature and behavior of the continental Moho, reflection profiling in Precambrian cratons, and the role of supercomputing in deep reflection processing and interpretation
