Abstract

a strong association between cotard’s syndrome & catatonia, not only in clinical presentation but also in treatment. (Mr. F’s symptoms dramatically improved with benzodiazepines in addition to antipsychotics.) We agree with their suggestion that benzodiazepines should be considered early in the course of illness. In addition, neuropsychological testing in Mr. F had shown deficits in visual spatial functioning. Testing in a group of catatonic patients had shown similar findings [7] and testing in patients with cotard’s per a literature review [8] showed deficits in facial recognition, which is a subset of visuospatial functioning. The significance of this finding needs to be further investigated.
