Abstract

In this study of the role of COBOL in the information systems (IS) curriculum, the authors surveyed companies that recruit at Bryant College to investigate their perceptions of (a) the importance of new recruits' skills in programming languages, including COBOL; (b) the importance of other application development skills; and (c) the competency level of graduates. These results should be useful to universities attempting to determine the role that COBOL should play in the IS curriculum.
