Abstract
The figure of the professional translator as a new has aroused little interest on the part of researchers in information science. However, in the area of knowledge of translation and interpretation, translator’s behavior in and for the media has been considered a field of research. The media coverage projected on a profession is essential for the creation of a public opinion and the way it becomes visible will influence the consideration given to those who practice it. In order to know this consideration, we have compiled all the news including the word “translator” which appeared in the headlines of four of the newspapers with the largest circulation in the Spanish State published in 2017. The quantitative and qualitative analysis of the corpus will enable us to extract data to elaborate a study on the informative treatment of translator in press.

Los Estudios de Traducción e Interpretación se han interesado desde hace años por la relación entre la disciplina y los medios, mientras que los trabajos científicos que se ocupan de los fenómenos sociales vinculados con la comunicación han sido más escasos y de ello se hacen eco recientemente Martín Ruano (2016), Hernández Guerrero (2017) o Valdeón (2018). Valdeón (2018) llama la atención sobre la necesidad de contacto entre los miembros de la comunidad científica de la comunicación y los de la traducción para analizar el papel institucional y el del periodista-traductor, teniendo en cuenta la función de gatekeeping del medio y el “reposicionamiento ideológico” (2016: 43) que supone el traslado de una noticia de un medio a otro Sobre la naturaleza de la traducción periodística en un contexto cosmopolita, sobre cómo viajan los significados a través de las culturas y cómo se comunica la información a través de los medios investiga Bielsa (2016: 23).
