Abstract

IntroductionInfluenza vaccination is indicated for the health care workers due to 3 reasons: to prevent disease, to prevent transmission to patients, and to prevent absenteeism. Nevertheless, vaccination coverage among health care workers is unknown in our country. The aim of this study is to estimate influenza vaccination coverage among health care workers in a basic health area of Valencia. MethodsThis observational, descriptive and transversal study was carried out among all health workers of Primary Care Health District 14, Health Department Xativa-Ontinyent. The sample coincides with the study population, since it includes all workers. Data were obtained from the nominal immunization records of the Department of Health of Valencia during 4 seasons (2011-2012 to 2014-2015) and they were categorized by vaccination status, sex, age and occupational category. Absolute and relative frequencies to each of the values of the qualitative variables were calculated. The mean and standard deviation was used for quantitative variables. ResultsThe overall influenza vaccination coverage throughout the study period was 30.3%. Vaccination coverage was higher among physicians (44.4%), among men (38.5%), and among those over 50 years (34.4%). ConclusionsThe rate of vaccination coverage against influenza in our country is low.
