Abstract
Artificial humic acid (AHA), with a lot of functional groups, was prepared from waste rice straw, using a hydrothermal process in this study. The AHA was then loaded with Fe3O4 magnetic nanoparticles to prepare AHA coated magnetic nanosorbent (AHA-Fe3O4) for the adsorption and removal of chlortetracycline (CTC), oxytetracycline (OTC) and tetracycline (TC) from water. Adsorption experiments showed that the AHA coating enriched functional groups on Fe3O4 magnetic nanoparticles, reduced defects that ease of oxidation and agglomeration in water bodies, and increased the Fe3O4 magnetic nanoparticles’ specific surface area. The removal of tetracycline antibiotics (TCAs) from water by AHA-Fe3O4 mainly occurred via chemisorption, and with heat-absorbing spontaneous processes. The adsorption maximum (Qm) of AHA-Fe3O4 for TC, CTC and OTC was increased 1.88-, 1.72- and 1.85-fold, respectively, compared with that of bare Fe3O4 magnetic nanoparticles. A novel magnetic nano-adsorbent AHA-Fe3O4 was prepared, which can be easily separated and recovered from water, and has good adsorption selectivity and regeneration recyclability. It is promising to become a green and efficient water pollutants adsorbent.
