Abstract

Knowledge of the coastal surface wind field is utilized in many applications both scientific and applied. Satellite remote sensing, specifically high resolution Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR), can be utilized to obtain wind measurements in coastal areas. These measurements are used as inputs for circulation, surface wave and forecast models. In addition, ocean surface wind fields are important for ship maneuvering and commercial fishing [1].
