Abstract

As the title of this report indicates, there is little to add to my report of last year concerning the Coast Guard work in oceanography. As is generally known, the work of the Coast Guard in oceanography is tied very closely to our responsibilities for International Ice Patrol. Since the suspension of that service during the war years and the cessation of the oceanographic program in connection therewith, no full‐scale program has been resumed. The service is still dogged by diseases of demobilization, and it has not been possible to make oceanography an active part of the ice patrol program in 1947 as was expected. However, the ice patrol has been resumed, and was conducted in 1946, and is in progress in 1947.
