Abstract

Porcelain was made at Coalport, on the banks of the River Severn in Shropshire, for 130 years—from 1976 till 1926. During the first forty-five years of that period, the industry was under the direction of the brothers John and Thomas Rose. Part of the works' premises now form the Coalport China Works Museum of the Ironbridge Gorge Museum Trust (SJ 696024). This paper traces the history of the premises and relates the surviving buildings and sites to this history. It has been possible to re-construct several maps showing the general arrangement of the various works during the early years.
