Abstract

ABSTRACT Liquefaction data from tests on three Alberta sub-bituminous coals (Smoky Tower, Highvale, Vesta) using 130 ml autoclave have been used to predict the rate constants of various proposed models. Calculated rate constants are correlated with Arr-henius law. Results indicated that only coal to gas conversions are purely thermal reactions, while toluene and tetrahydrofuran (THF) extracts conversions are associated with gas-solvent-coal solvolysis.
