Abstract

Attempting to make the transition from an academy to a first team rugby league player has the potential to be stressful. These athletes could potentially experience stressors associated with playing for their academy side, loan team, or even first team. The aim of this article is to provide a summary of a presentation given to Super League academy directors to illustrate how sport psychologists can provide coping effectiveness training in the form of a one-off presentation to coaches. Elements of the presentation and a rationale for the inclusion of content are explained.
