Abstract

Coach development programmes geared around adult-oriented psychosocial practices are needed for coaches working within Masters (adult) football contexts. However, nothing is known about how coach developers may provide such programming in Colombia. In this chapter, we discuss our experiences as coach developers delivering a participatory action research project of a contextually distinct and culturally sensitive Masters football coach education programme in Colombia. The programme was delivered to 23 coaches from the Masters Athletes’ Football Association of Tolima (ASOFAMTOL), in Ibagué, Colombia. The first author is a first-time coach developer who has returned to her hometown after living abroad for 20 years and is working under the tutelage of the second author, an internationally trained coach developer from Canada. We discuss (1) getting respect as women practitioners and researchers in the Colombian culture; (2) giving respect as foreign coach developers; and (3) the importance of facilitating evidence-informed practice to Spanish-speaking male football player-coaches 60 years and older, who had never undergone coach education before.
