Abstract

Present work analyses carbon dioxide capture process by means of chemical absorption using a different solvent regeneration technique based on the use of an ion exchange resin. The first part of the manuscript compares the behavior of MDEA aqueous solutions in the carbon dioxide absorption in a bubble column reactor regard the best available technique. On the other hand these MDEA solutions were employed to confirm the suitable behavior of a new regeneration process working in a continuous regime that allows the substitution of the conventional regeneration procedure (stripping). The influence of different experimental variables such as gas flow-rate, liquid flow-rate, amine concentration in the liquid phase and composition of gas stream, upon carbon dioxide absorption rate in the bubble column reactor was studied during the absorption/regeneration process.
