Abstract

In this paper, the Norwegian strategy for Carbon capture and Storage (CCS) and the funding mechanisms are described. The Norwegian CCS strategy consists of three main elements:•The RD&D programme CLIMIT•The CO2 Technology Centre Mongstad (TCM)•Full-scale demonstration. The paper describes how this chain has paved the way towards full-scale demonstration of CCS. The emphasis will be on the CLIMIT-programme and on CO2 capture technologies for energy intensive industry. In July 2016, the Norwegian Ministry of Petroleum and Energy (MPE) published the results of a feasibility study on full-scale demonstration of CCS at three locations with different energy intensive industries: a cement plant, an ammonia plant and a waste incineration plant. The main findings and results from the feasibility study are also presented in this paper.
