Abstract

A chemical dosimetric system of Co III-EDTA for measuring gamma-radiation dose has been studied. Spectrophotometric method was employed to measure Co III-EDTA concentration in the irradiated dosimeter solution. The dosimeter solution used in this work was air-saturated and in neutral aqueous medium. It was found that the change in optical density for the dosimeter concentration ranging from 1 × 10 −3 M to 7 × 10 −1 M responds linearly to the increasing of gamma absorbed dose. With proper choice of concentration, the system is suitable for accurate measurement of absorbed doses at 10 4–10 8 rad. Paper electrophoresis has been used to investigate the radiolytic products of the dosimeter solution.
