Abstract

The article focuses on the co-evolution of two networks. The discussion refers to: the emergence of network structures; the embeddedness of companies in multiple networks; a theory of network interdependence where networks show a pattern of independent evolution, skewed co-evolution, positive feedback loop, or destructive co-evolution; and the interdependent evolution of interpersonal scientific coauthorship networks and alliance networks in relation to the U.S. biotechnology industry. The complementary, substitute, and independent aspects of networks are mentioned.
