Abstract

This study aimed to explore the experience of co-designing an accessible gym at Seoul National University. A team of six members engaged in three workshop sessions to create a more accessible environment for people with diverse disabilities. Three themes emerged from the qualitative analysis of the co-design experience. The study’s results highlighted the need to co-create products and environments with people with lived experience to ensure accessibility inclusive of people with various physical conditions. Also, the co-design process was found to help the design team members with disabilities perceive themselves as capable of exerting power over their environment.
