Abstract

The article is about the constructions of infantile pain that a Pediatric Palliative Care team m performs in a specialized public hospital in the Autonomous City of Buenos Aires. With an ethnographic fieldwork during 2015, the difficulties in treating pain as an object of intervention / investigation are described. Also described are medical inquiries to qualify and explain the origin of the pain and the use of allegories in that work. It is concluded that pain is an element of power for these paliativists, the leitmotiv of their work, their identity and their expertise and their definitions are neither simple nor finished.
