Abstract

ABSTRACTThe CMMI Product Team has created a set of assessment requirements that are to be satisfied in any full, comprehensive assessment method for use with the CMMI models. The CMMI Assessment Requirements (CAR, v. 0.1) is an extension of prior work done at the SEI on a CMM®‐Based Appraisal Framework (CAF, v. 1.0). The CAR was written to comply with the emerging ISO/IEC 15504 standard, for wider applicability. The team has also created a comprehensive CMMI assessment method, called the Standard CMMI Assessment Method for Process Improvement (SCAMPI). This method is based on the SEI's CMM‐Based Appraisal for Internal Process Improvement (CBA IPI) and the SECM Appraisal Method (EIA/IS 731, Part 2). Pilot tests for CMMI products, using SCAMPI, are planned for 1999–2000.The CMMI Product Team will also provide guidance for tailoring the CAR to address the needs of an organization that wishes a less‐than‐full or partial assessment. Such partial assessments, e.g., initial assessment or quick‐look, would provide less rigor than SCAMPI, but would also require fewer resources.
