Abstract

Introduction: Underreporting of ADR is connected with deficiencies in the knowledge and attitude among healthcare professionals. Hence, this study had been planned to compare the knowledge, attitude, and practices (KAP) and perception among health care professionals after one-day continuing medical education (CME) on Pharmacovigilance. Methods: 36 Faculties and 34 Students (those who attended the CME on Pharmacovigilance) were given Retro-pre post questionnaire through Google forms. Demographic data, prior experience in Pharmacovigilance, scores of perception questions and feedback on sessions were expressed as percentages. Before and after CME Scores of knowledge, attitude and practices were compared by paired t test. Results: Both faculties and students were highly satisfied with scientific sessions, retaining knowledge gained during CME, depth of knowledge of speakers, overall arrangement of CME. The participants of CME had statistically significant increase (p<0.001) in the overall knowledge, attitude and practices on Pharmacovigilance significantly after CME. All the Sessions were very useful to most of the participants. Conclusion: CME and workshops on Pharmacovigilance is significantly important for creating awareness on Pharmacovigilance among healthcare professionals to protect the community from mortality and morbidity due to ADR.
