Abstract

We model the odd-neutron nucleus 229Th as a 208Pb+ 20O+n system. We predict the lowest-lying parity-doublet bands to have K π values 5/2 ±, 3/2 ±, 1/2 ±, 7/2 ± and 5/2 ±. There are experimental counterparts for seven of these bands, and plausible candidates for the other three. The calculated electromagnetic properties of the ground state band are in good agreement with measured values.
