Abstract
Our society is increasingly hyperconnected and, in this sense, face-to-face activities have taken shape in the virtual environment, such as book clubs. Thus, the concepts of mediatization of culture and society (HJARVARD, 2014) and media bios (SODRÉ, 2013) are fundamental for understanding social virtualization. In this sense, this paper presents an analysis of Netflix Book Club, an online book club focused on audiovisual materials of the streaming platform that are derived from books. From the Convergent Televisual Analysis methodology (BECKER, 2019), it was verified that the book club abandons certain protocols intertwined in this type of social formation. Therefore, it just labels itself as a book club, ignoring the promise of continuity of the project.
