Abstract

Clouds have fractal characteristic, self-similarity structure. In this paper, the fractal theory is used to simulate the spatial distribution of clouds density. Where there is larger density, there is larger liquid water content. Using analogy technique, the distribution of liquid water content in clouds is simulated. Specific attenuation of different liquid water content within clouds is calculated at Ka band. Based on the statistic of liquid water content in clouds at Xi'an area, the cloud specific attenuation and the attenuation of simulating rain cloud are calculated on slant path. It is shown that the clouds and the distribution of liquid water content in the clouds may be simulated by means of fractal. Utilizing the simulated cloud, cloud attenuation may be estimated at Ka band.
