Abstract

Cloud formation and destruction by processes related to shock fronts, cloud-cloud collisions and condensation instabilities are reviewed. The importance of magnetic fields in increasing the cohesion and cross section for cloud collisions is emphasized. The hierarchical structure of interstellar clouds is considered as a constraint on their possible formation mechanisms.
