Abstract

The emergence of technologies such as cloud, fog, and edge computing has enhanced the working capability and digital powers of industries. Cloud computing provides features such as faster transmission, security, and integrity of data. Society is producing a gigantic amount of data every minute. Data has become one of the most important utilities for industries because everything is based upon it and its uses. But analyzing and processing it efficiently is more complicated than it looks. As a solution to this problem, there are two enhancements that can be made to cloud computing: edge computing and fog computing. These computing technologies try to reduce the size of the data to be transmitted to the cloud by performing processing closer to the entry point of the data. This chapter covers various aspects of cloud, edge, and fog computing, their requirements, advantages, disadvantages, and usage scenarios.
