Abstract

Automated and network-connected manufacturing techniques are now part of a larger landscape of interconnection that encompasses an increasingly broad range of activities. As in many previously isolated areas of specialized information technology, standards applicable to smart manufacturing must adapt to keep pace with the accelerating pace of change made possible by cloud processing, and the same is true of the need for cloud-based methods to adapt to innovative manufacturing techniques.
