Abstract

The authors greatly appreciate the interest shown by Dr. Kang in his discussion on the paper describing an analytical solution for consolidation resulting from arched initial excess pore-water pressure distributions in a tall oedometer. The work carried out by the discusser using a large-sized floating-type oedometer appears to support the assumptions made by the writers—namely, that the vertical normal stresses were uniformly distributed at any depth and that the adhesion between the oedometer walls and the soil was equal to the cohesion of the soil.
