Abstract

The writer thanks all discussers for their great interest in the improved Muskingum model with variable exponent parameter presented in the original paper. The discussers have suggested several ideas for modifying the structure of the proposed variable exponent parameter. Some ideas are useful, and other ideas have adverse implications for model calibration and prediction. Following the response to each of the four discussions, highlights of alternative thinking to improve model performance are presented. The writer would like to take this opportunity to thank the editors-in-chief for facilitating this information exchange that will help advance the research on the Muskingum model and enrich its practical applications.
