Abstract

The traditional methods for closure of an aortic stump following removal of an infected aortic graft are attended by an abnormal stress on the suture line, which may lead to aortic stump blowout and exsanguination. Herein is described a new method for aortic stump closure, creating parallel opposing vector forces, which has the theoretical advantage of creating a functional bifurcation which can direct the flow of blood into the renal arteries.
