Abstract

Objective To report a case of Clostridium difficile-induced small bowel diarrhoea. Design Case report. Patient A 25-year-old woman, presenting with severe ileostomy diarrhoea. Results Routine laboratory tests were normal. An enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay for C. difficile was positive. The patient made an excellent recovery with a course of metronidazole. Conclusion Since C. difficile is a well recognized cause of colitis, hopefully our findings will prompt a search for small bowel infection in patients with ileostomy diarrhoea.
