Abstract

A new technique—closed-cannulated commissurotomy—is presented as an alternative to open mitral commissurotomy. The procedure seems to incorporate the best features of both standard closed commissurotomy and open commissurotomy. In addition, the incidence of prosthetic valve replacement after this operation appears to be substantially less than after the open procedure.
