Abstract

The coupling-of-modes (COM) model is applied to the analysis of multistrip couplers (MSCs). By merging the COM formalism with the classical one-dimensional symmetric/antisymmetric mode representation of the MSC, both the effects of finite finger resistance and electrode reflections are included in the modeling of the MSC. The use of the COM formalism allows closed-form solutions to be obtained for MSC operation. Using the COM model for surface acoustic wave (SAW) propagation and the symmetric/antisymmetric modeling of the MSC, solutions to MSC operation are derived for a general three-track coupler. To verify the approach, simplified solutions neglecting finger reflections, but including finger resistance, are presented for comparison with solutions by other theories. >
