Abstract

ABSTRACT This short close reading thinks about the concluding couplets in the 'Shakespearean sonnet'. Generally taken either to affirm or overturn what has gone before, the couplet may in fact work in other ways that don't sit comfortably in such a binary. In particular, this essay explores how the couplets of Shakespeare's sonnets 91 and 92 may well challenge binary assumptions about their form.
