Abstract
A 56-year-old man was referred to our hospital for treatment of a superficial esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (SCC). Esophagogastroduodenoscopy was performed, which showed a clear view of the left wall of the oropharynx and no detectable abnormality from the distant view (Figure A); however, an 8-mm lesion was detected during close observation (Figure B, arrowheads). Magnifying narrow-band imaging showed the characteristic irregular intrapapillary capillary loop pattern of SCC (Figure C). Transoral surgery was performed under general anesthesia.
