Abstract

Stomata, the tiny pores that allow gaseous exchange in plant leaves, are scattered across the plant leaf surface and regulated such that no two stomata are too close to each other. In Arabidopsis , the mutation too many mouths ( TMM ) disrupts the normal spacing of stomata, such that they can be found in clumps. Nadeau and Sack find that the protein encoded by TMM is localized in the plasma membrane and functions to control the plane of cell division. J. A. Nadeau, F. D.
