Abstract

The photosynthetic green sulfur bacteria use an iron-sulfur type reaction center (RC) complex to catalyze the light dependent transport of electrons from cytochrome c on the periplasmic side to ferredoxin on the cytoplasmic side of the cell membrane. The RC complex has substantial structural and functional similarities to Photosystem I.
