Abstract

In combination with basal Murashige and Skoog (MS) medium, the effects of cytokinins on growth and development of isolated meristem tips of grapevine were tested. Axillary bud formation was induced and cultures of continually proliferating shoots of 8 clones of grapevine were derived on MS medium supplemented with 10 μM 6-benzylaminopurine. Factors inducing in vitro rooting of shoots were studied. Half strength MS medium with the addition of 0.1 μM β-indolebutyric acid was effective for root formation in most tested clones. The hormonal control of growth and development of meristem tips, as well as the significance of in vitro propagation for long-term storage and clonal selection of grapevine cultivars, are discussed.
