Abstract

Currently, twenty-one types of malignant salivary gland epithelial tumours are identified in the WHO 2017 classification, with benign being more common than malignant. Malignant salivary gland tumours are rare, with UK incidence rates between 0.83-1.38 per 100,000 population each year. From the literature, major independent prognostic factors include staging, perineural invasion, and positive lymph nodes. High rates of metastasis are frequently seen in high-grade mucoepidermoid carcinoma, adenoid cystic carcinoma, salivary duct carcinoma and carcinoma ex pleomorphic adenoma.
