Abstract
FUNGAL infections occurring over a 10 year period in a large autopsy and surgical pathology service were studied. The lungs were the most frequent portal of entry in the case of invasive fungal infections, the gastrointestinal tract in the case of superficial infections. Candida was the most frequent fungus encountered and showed more widespread dissemination in the organs compared with Aspergillus. It was more frequently associated with intravenous lines and abdominal surgery. Patients with leukaemia were infected with Aspergillus exclusively.
